Using his studio as point of departure, Janssen designed a tour around Berlin’s city-center with the intention to spend exactly one Euro in eight different copy shops. At the first copy shop, he xeroxed the Euro coin, then in the remaining seven making photocopies of the continuously diminishing change he was left with.

Art and the artworld evolve around values. In all senses of the word: esthetic, ethic and financial. I like to take this as a starting point for my work. I started examining how the value of money can be artistically attributed or diminished. The result is three ongoing projects: Maecenas, An Artists Privilege and An Artists Touch. All three deal with actual money becoming art objects, by becoming more or less valuable , but always collectible.
Project Maecenas
About a year ago I started the Project Maecenas with an investment of 5 euro cents. I copied the 5 cents coin (5 cents for a copy) and sold it for 10 cents. The buyer paid the ten cents with one coin, which again i copied (this time twice because my investment has doubled) and sold them together for 20 cents…
In this project I sell work where the total amount of money that I receive is reinvested in the next work in this project. The buyer has to pay the money with exactly one coin or bill. This way the buyer provides the cost as well as the image for the next work in the project. Currently I have sold eleven works and the twelfth work (4000 copies of the 200 euro bill) is for sale for a 500 euro bill.
So what happens when that pile is sold and you have created the last possible pile? (10.000 copies of a 500 euro bill)
I have been thinking about this en decided to also sell this last work to continue another project -called An Artists Privilege.
